Emotional Aromatherapy w/Isabelle Simon
Sun, March 26, 2:30pm

Ever feel overtaken by knee-jerk emotional responses? Want to be less reactive and respond proactively? Need to feel more joy and happiness in daily living? Emotional aromatherapy can help! One of the most important neurological findings about emotions is that they exist as part of a chemical process in the brain. When an emotional stimulus is repeated, a pre-programmed chemical response becomes more entrenched.

Come & join us for a fun and empowering class, where you will learn: 1) the exciting properties of essential oils & their ability to help create new neuropathways; 2) How inhaled aromas directly stimulate the limbic system, which is responsible for processing smell, memory, and emotion; 3) how the unique chemical signals of essential oils offer new information to the brain, helping to interrupt old responses and create a new emotional experience.

Pysanka: The Art of Ukrainian Easter Egg Design with Johanna Xenobia Wed, Apr 5, 2017 at 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Create your own pysanka through this batik method of design, adapting ancient traditions from Ukraine to fit your personal meaning and style. Your pure white egg will slowly become a brilliantly dyed symbol of the advent of spring and resurgence of life, along with any additional intentions and meanings you personally add.
The egg, a symbol of purity and divinity all over Europe, has been long venerated as a symbol of spring. Eastern European women have been decorating eggs for springtime rituals since 3,000 BC. Each village had their unique designs, varying according to region and tradition. Each symbol of the pysanky had its own special meaning and magical power, to aid in fertility, productivity, and well-being of human and beast, as well as calling upon heavenly powers and earthly spirits. These ancient rituals and symbolism were slowly incorporated in Christianity, converting their meanings but not their unique designs.
You'll find the method of creation with candlelight and wax to be meditative and healing, as well as resulting in a beautiful end product you will love!
All materials included.

Wednesdays, April 5 & 12, 6 - 9pm
$45/both days, $30/one

Johanna, a first generation Ukrainian-American, was taught by her mother, and her mother's mother, this ancient tradition passed down through the generations. The symbolism and significance of the pysanka was also the subject of her bachelor's thesis in Anthropology at the University of Chicago. She is excited to share this tradition with you, where art, ritual, community, and intention align.
