    Fire Play II: Flow

    Fire Play Workshops Step into the magic of fire and discover how to move with confidence, creativity, and safety. Whether you're a dancer, performer, or movement artist, this hands-on workshop will help you integrate fire into your unique movement vocabulary. In this 2-hour workshop, you'll learn essential fire safety, prop handling, lighting techniques, staging considerations, movement fundamentals, musicality, and performance flow. Participants will practice with props both unlit and lit while receiving personalized guidance and feedback. While each workshop stands on its own, together they create a progressive training journey from foundational skills to confident performance. Then, you’ll be ready when the Tribal Burn choreography and performance courses start in the Fall! Fire Play I: Ignite - Th, July 2nd, 6-8pm Fire Play II: Flow - Sun, July 19th, 3 - 5pm Fire Play III: Expression - Th, August 6, 6 - 8pm Fire Play IV: Embodiment - Sun, Aug 16, 3 - 5pm Register Here What to Wear • No hair products • Hair secured with no loose ends (cotton bandana optional) • No long sleeves • Wear fitted cotton, denim, or similar natural-fiber clothing • Avoid loose or baggy garments • Wear secure shoes that won't easily slip off Props Bring your own hand-held fire prop, such as palms or fans, or try instructor-provided props to discover what feels best for your movement style. This workshop features Fire By Dancers fire props, designed by dancers for dancers. Created from decades of performance experience, these handcrafted props are balanced, durable, and built to move naturally with the body, helping dancers feel more comfortable, confident, and expressive. You'll have the opportunity to try different styles and experience the difference before investing in your own equipment. Fuel is included. Some props, such as poi, require specific foundational skills before being used with fire, and we'll help you develop those skills safely. Registration $55 per workshop, or $195/series Pre-registration BY THE DAY BEFORE is required. No walk-ins. Space is limited. Bring bug spray and sunscreen, shoes you can move in, and water to stay hydrated. Instructor: Karen Sun Ray Karen has been teaching and performing with fire since 2005 and has instructed fire workshops throughout the region since 2006. A longtime Tribal Burn performance director and experienced fire artist, she dances many styles, specializing in Polynesian-style fire performance. Karen is passionate about helping students develop safe, expressive, and captivating fire skills.
